From 230lb water buffalo to lean mean fitness model!!!!

Blessings,
My name is Odalis Urena and I am a male Fitness Model for Species Nutrition,Personal Trainer and Nutrition Consultant. Not that long ago I used to be obsessed with "looking big" and neglected the importance of symmetry. Every year was the same I would eat like an animal and lift weights religiously and was never able to take off my shirt at the beach. After years of this I finally said "enough is enough". I decided to take action and reached out to pro bodybuider Colette Nelson. Colette Mentored me and told me I would make a great fitness model. A few months later I started reading Anthony Robbins and Skip Lacour for motivation. I started to learn the importance of setting goals. I set a goal to have a photoshoot and the rest is history. After posting the pictures on modelmayhem and on my facebook all the blessings kept coming in. Not that long after I was put on board by Species Evolutionary Nutrition by pro bodybuilder Dave Palumbo. I used to be that guy who could never take off his shirt in public and now I cant keep it on..lol..I serve as a motivation for others and want to tell everyone that if I did it so can you. Thank you for taking the time to read this post. Here is a before pic of me

Try to improve daily

Sometimes in life things get in your way and try to rob us from our happiness. One minute you feel like you are on top of the world and the next you feel like you have been buried 6 feet under. It is easier said and done to get motivated and to think positive. Like the motivational speaker Anthony Robbins I live by CANI. CANI stands for (Constant and Never Ending Improvement). What we have to do is try to better ourselves every day. No matter how bad things look around us we must use our resources and try to improve daily.

Trans Fat This …. Trans Fat That!!!!!

by Odalis Urena

Margarine, cookies, cakes and pies, buttered popcorn, breads and fries. What do these treats have in common, rather than the fact that they can be used in a riddle? They taste very good and are sold everywhere, you might say, but how about the fact that they contain trans-fatty acids. Man-made molecules called trans-fatty acids are created in an attempt to increase profits and the shelf life of products. Trans-fatty acids are created when liquid unsaturated vegetable oil is hydrogenated, becoming solid fat. These hydrogenated vegetable oils are added to margarine- making it a solid at room temperature, which makes the product easier to spread.

You might say, “It’s just a little cookie with little chocolate chips; it can’t kill me”. Well, think again. Studies show that in the United States alone up, to 30,000 deaths are implicated by the over consumption of not only saturated fats but also trans-fatty acids. When you take in trans-fatty acids you increase your LDL (bad) cholesterol just like saturated fats do, and you decrease your HDL (good) cholesterol. This increases your chances of developing heart disease. Trans-fatty acids promote insulin resistance which increases your chances of developing type II diabetes. Trans-fatty acids also cause your blood vessel walls to stiffen, raising your blood pressure and increasing your chances of a stroke.

Now you may be wondering how to find out if your favorite goodies contain trans-fats. When you are looking at the ingredients on a food label, be sure to put the product back on the shelf if it reads:

“hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated vegetable oil”.

My people, let’s be mindful of what we eat! Make sure you read those labels!
